Healthy Pets: Tip #5

Your dog needs exercise. I know that you have heard this a thousand times, but it is true. A dog needs at least 30 minutes of exercise everyday to stay healthy. This exercise does not have to be going on a run. The owner can simply take the dog on a walk or play fetch with them in the backyard. Whatever it is, exercise helps pets maintain a healthy weight just as much as what you feed them.

Healthy Pets: Tip #4

4. Feed your pets ice cubes. I know what you're probably thinking: why ice cubes, they have no nutritional value? Ice cubes can be extremely beneficial regarding a pet's health. Ice cubes help dogs, and especially puppies, develop their gums and teeth. The coldness of the ice cube relaxes the gums and strengthens the teeth. In addition, ice cubes are a great way to cool the dog down on a hot day. Ice cubes also prove to be an alternate approach to drinking water. Bigger ice cubes are better.

3. Reward your pets with treats. Treats are the optimal persuasion method for any pet and any size dog. Most dogs will do any trick they know just to earn a treat. Many stores sell healthy treats for pets, including vegetables and other substances and minerals they may lack in their diet. Treats are also a phenomenal way to give your pets little healthy snacks throughout the day.

Healthy pets: Tip #2

2. Feed your pets only twice a day. Feeding your pets only twice a day makes them eat at the same times as you, so it forms a daily routine. In addition, it gives your pet time to truly digest all of their food. In addition, the owner does not have to worry about missing the dog's lunch if he only eats at breakfast and dinner. Ease your pet into this by feeding them a normal or increased amount for breakfast and dinner, but a lessened amount at lunch time.

What to feed pets so they are healthy? #1

It is hard to know what to feed pets nowadays. I know people who feed their dogs way too much or way too little. How could someone say no to those adorable eyes and tail wagging? My family had the similar problem. Some tips on how to know that you are feeding your pet properly:

1. Feed your pets vegetables. When my family visited the vet, they told us that our 75 lb. yellow lab that he should only eat one cup each meal. However, most medium and big dogs need to eat more than that. A good way to give your pet more food with nutrition is to feed them vegetable. I recommend a big can of green beans that you can scoop some out of for every meal.

I will post one tip every day so you know how to keep your pet healthy. Happy munching!

Time Management

The Gold Award Project is intimidating-and that is why it is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn. It takes a lot of work. It forces girls to step out of their comfort zone. One thing that the Gold Award Project has taught me is time management. When my project was approved by council in November, 2013, I was ready to go. After the long planning and application process, I was finally done. I worked on my project until mid-March, contacting adults and working on setting up my pet food pantry. Then school and soccer had me incredibly busy with playoffs, prom, AP tests, and finals. When summer came, I knew it was time for my Gold Award Project. Throughout the summer, I have had to-do lists and goals set every week so my Gold Award can progress. Today is June 20th, and I am so proud on how much I have accomplished in the last twenty days. I recommend that every girl scout working on their gold award sets goals and reminders so their project will continue to advance!
